  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1/2 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup mini chocolate chips
  • Cooking spray

Instructions:

Turn the oven on to 400 degrees Fahrenheit 200 degrees Celsius

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spray it lightly with cooking spray

Mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl

Blend thoroughly

Combine the dry ingredients with the chilled butter pieces

Work the butter into the flour mixture with your fingers or a pastry cutter until it resembles coarse crumbs

Once a dough forms, stir in the vanilla extract and buttermilk

Add the tiny chocolate chips and fold

After transferring the dough to a surface dusted with flour, give it a few gentle kneads until it comes together

Roll out the dough to a circle that is about an inch thick

Toss to make 8 wedges

After arranging the scones on the prepared baking sheet, transfer them to the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they are slightly browned and firm to the touch

Before serving, take out of the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes
